NorCal GM surprises team with special Guest Speaker
(April 2005):
The NorCal Lawmen received a big visit from Oakland Raider Head Coach Norv Turner at their practice prior to the season opener. Coach Truner, who is a former Martinez resident and player at DVC, took some time before this year's NFL draft to stop by his old stomping grounds at DVC where the Lawmen practice and play their home games, and paid a visit to the Lawmen coaches and players to wish them success in the 2005 season. After a very motivating speech that left the players and coaching staff with goose bumps, the team traveled up to Sacramento to take on the defending champion Wolverines.

After shutting down the Wolverine offense twice, the Lawmen were able to drive down the field and score a touchdown and take a 7-0 lead. On the Wolverines following two possessions the Lawmen were able to create turnovers and set the tone for the game that would prove to be much different from their last meeting in the playoffs a year ago.

Unfortunately some questionalble calls by the officials and dropped balls by the receivers cost the Lawmen many opportunities to add to their lead. The teams battled back and forth with the game deadlocked until late in the game, where the Wolverines were able to tie up the score which remained at 7-7 until the end of regulation.

In overtime the champion Wolverines quickly regained their form and scored a TD on a five yard run only to be matched by the visiting Lawmen on a 3rd and 18 from the 26 yard line where WR Raymond Price pulled in a diving catch to tie the score at 14 -14 . After being unable to move the ball, the Wolverines were able to convert a FG to go up 17-14 . The Lawmen after receiving a penalty were forced to attempt a long 42 yard FG but were unable to get the ball down after a high snap, ending the game with the Wolverines winning 17-14 in two overtimes. After the game the teams met a midfield to congratulate each other for a great game game and the traditional GSAFL post game prayer. Many Wolverine players commented on how the officiating went in their favor and that it was a great family event and a very competitive game. Even though the Lawmen eventually lost the game in double overtime the players and coaches knew that a magical chemistry of talent and team commitment is taking place here in NorCal country.
