August 2008:
2008 Lawmen Hall of Fame
Inductees: This year the Minor League
Football Hall of Fame has selected former player, head
coach and team owner, Boots
James. Boots was a player on the Lawmen from
1999-2004, winning 3 championships as a player, then
became the team owner and won the 2006 GCFL championship. In
2008, Boots took over as head coach and led the team to
a 10-3 record, ending up just minutes from winning the
team's
5th championship in 10 seasons. As it was, the Lawmen
appeared in 6 championship games, winning 4 titles
during the 10 years that Boots was with the Lawmen. James
has now retired to focus on his family and, of course,
coaching high school football. The Lawmen wish him the
best.
Longtime coach
Al Burrell,
who is just now starting with the Lawmen as the new
defensive coordinator for 2009, filling in a spot
vacated by James, is also being inducted into the Minor
League Football Hall of fame this year. Burrell was a
defensive coordinator for the Fury, Wolverines and Lions
over the past few years, winning championships twice, and
having several great seasons, including a 10-1 season
with the Lions last year.
The Minor League Football Hall of Fame Induction Banquet
is to take place at Mesquite, NV’s Oasis, Resort,
Casino, Golf and Spa on the evening of December 5th 2008
(near Las Vegas).. |
