“There’s a new weapon in town, and he using distance to make a difference. Veteran kicker Mike Gianni has proven to all that the kicking game can make all the difference in football, even in the GSAFL. Mike Gianni is producing a career season in 2003 including what just might be a few league records. Over the course of the season, number 18 has gone 14 for 18 when kicking field goals, including one from 45, two from 47, two from 48 and one from 50 yards. Most impressively, a 53 yard field goal with room to spare against the San Francisco Emperors in round 1 of the playoffs on July 12th. If these stats aren’t impressive enough, Gianni’s other statistics include 25 of 27 extra points and 13 Punts for a 43 yard average which includes a 62 yard punt at Kezar stadium against the East Bay Bears. He is kicking outstanding right now, I couldn’t ask for anymore”, said, Head Coach Raven Keene when asked about the Veteran Lawmen kicker.

Mike Gianni has impacted the Lawmen games in 2003 like none before. Over the course of the 2003 season, Gianni has brought an element of scoring to the GASFL never taken too seriously in the past. The kicking game has always been one of the most difficult areas of Semi Pro football. With the lack of specialized players in the league like long snappers and kickers, especially kickers that can stay consistent, coaches in the GSAFL have had difficulty in making the choice, 4th and 3 on the 30 yard line, kick it or go for it.

Mike Gianni has won the confidence of the Lawmen coaching staff and owners by providing a kicking game that can become a major game factor when playing any team this year. Looking toward the playoffs, you can expect the kicking of Gianni to play an important role in the Lawmen campaign to repeat another GSAFL Championship in 2003.
