March 2006:

The 2006 GCFL season kicks off this weekend with the Lawmen hosting the Outlaws at 6:00 PM Saturday at DVC in the 1st annual Wild West Showdown. The Lawmen plan to start the 2006 season with a bang using the big guns on both offense and defense, sending the notorious Outlaws back to their hideout to heal their wounds so they can try again next year.
The 2006 Lawmen look to be even stronger than last year's 8-3 team. Two of last year's losses were to the 19-1 2006 National Champion Renegades and the and the other was a triple overtime loss in the season opener on the road against the Sacramento Wolverines who were 13-0 in 2004 in winning the GSAFL AAA Championship. The Renegades won the 2005 National Championship game 41-10 over the undefeated Eastern Champion South Ogden Rhino-Raiders, the California State Championship 32-3 over the Southern Cal Champion San Diego Thunder and the GSAFL Championship 21-7 over the Sacramento Fury, but could only squeeze past the Lawmen 36-31 in the final game of the 2005 regular season which decided the GSAFL NFC West Conference championship.
The 36-31 loss to the Renegades in the final game of the season left the Lawmen to finish the 2005 regular season in second place in the GSAFL NFC Western Conference. Although the Lawmen lost again to the Renegades in the second round of the GSAFL playoffs, they may possibly have been the 2nd best team in the nation.
The Renegades have now retired their team after winning the 2005 National Championship and won't be competing in 2006. A few of their top players have joined the Lawmen saying that it's their best chance to repeat as National Champions since the Lawmen gave them their best competition of the 2005 season. The Lawmen have worked very hard in the off-season in both building the team on and off the field, and will stop at nothing less than a National Championship for the 2006 season. The quest starts this Saturday night at DVC against the East Bay Outlaws and the Lawmen plan to come out shooting and ask questions later.
